Tad and Lisa Salyards motoring in the "A" during
Winona's Steamboat Days Parade - June 22, 2003
Automobiling was once a great adventure and a Model A ride is like nothing you've ever experienced! From April through October our Model A Ford is available for short city tours. Weather and time permitting, we love to take our guests out for a ride on the town.
If you want to ride in our Model A, be sure to let us know when you make your
reservations or upon your arrival. There is no extra charge for a ride in
the car.
This mint condition Ford A was built late in October of 1929, the month the stock market crashed. Sporting 4 doors and a 3 speed transmission, this fine auto is powered by a four-cylinder engine. The Deluxe interior and trunk with spare tire mount add to the classic look of the vehicle.
Originally purchased by the Hatley family of Spring Valley, Minnesota this venerable old Ford A sported a sticker price of $740.00, FOB Detroit. George Simpson of Racine, Wisconsin puchased the vehicle from the Hatleys. The Carriage House purchased this Ford A from Mr. Al Morken of Rushford, Minnesota on May 20, 1997. Morken had purchased the car from Simpson in 1956. In the spring of 1998 the distributor gear stiripped while the car was on a leisurely dirve. Further inspection confirmed that the engine was running on only 3 cylinders and badly needed valves, new pistons, and other parts. John Campbell of Fountain City, Wisconsin rebuilt the engine during the winter and summer of 1999. A modifed head and winfield grind on the camshaft increased the horsepower from 40 to 70 horses. Fitted with an electronic ignition, the car now has a bit more spunk than the original, but all modifications have been made with parts that visually replicate the original parts.
